If there’s a problem with your suspension, then your vehicle may handle roughly and unsafely. At the first indication of a suspension issue, it’ll be best to have the mechanic conduct an inspection. At All Tune & Lube, we provide expert suspension repair in the greater Austin, TX area. Here are seven warning signs of suspension trouble.
One Corner Looks Low
A damaged spring can cause the vehicle to sit lower in one corner. When driving with a bad spring, there’s a good chance that you’ll hear clunking sounds whenever you hit any little bump.
Doesn’t Pass the Bounce Test
To help determine if your shocks/struts are worn-out, you can do an easy test. To begin, make entirely sure that your vehicle is securely parked and isn’t liable to roll. Then, press down on the front end with all of your weight, rock it a couple of times, and release. Head around back and repeat this step on the rear. After you let go, the vehicle shouldn’t rock more than two or three times. But if it does, then you’ve got an indication that your shocks/struts are going bad.
Drifting
As long as you’re following the speed limit, it shouldn’t seem like you’re drifting or swaying when taking sharp turns. But if you do get this sensation, then there’s reason to suspect suspension trouble.
Bald Spots on Tires
Suspension problems can cause tire tread to wear down unevenly. This can then lead to bald spots developing on your tires.
Braking Issues
Worn-out shocks can make it feel like you’re thrusting forward at a downward trajectory when you hit the brakes. A faulty suspension can also make it take significantly longer to come to a complete stop after you’ve begun braking.
Bouncy Driving
Suspension trouble is likely brewing if it feels like your vehicle is bouncing excessively whenever you hit any little bump in the road.
Leaking and/or Visible Damage
It’s a good idea to occasionally take a look at your suspension to see if there are any clear signs of trouble. You’ll probably need to replace your shocks if you can see oil leaking out onto them.
